Keep up to date

Looking for a way to keep up to date with Ballymoney Scout Group news?

There are several ways you can stay informed. They are (in no particular order):

1. Twitter

Our Twitter account is @BmoneyScouts. We tweet all our latest news posts, and we follow several Scouting related people – @ScoutsNI, @UKScouting (the UK Scouting Association) and Bear Grylls among others. Our Twitter feed is shown on the right hand side of the website or you can click the Twitter logo to take you to our Twitter profile.

2. Facebook

Our Facebook page is here. “Like” us to keep up to date with news and comments. Latest news posts will be displayed on the wall. There is a link to our Facebook profile on the right hand side of this page, or you can click the Facebook logo.

3. Email subscriptions

You can subscribe to email updates and receive an email if there has been a new post on the website that day. You will receive no more than one email per day – no new posts mean no emails so your inbox won’t be overwhelmed. There is a subscribe box to the right hand side below the Twitter and Facebook widgets.

4. Weekly online digest of news

Each weekend, a collection of articles relating to scouting is collected into the ‘Ballymoney Scout Group weekly’. This is an online newspaper comprising tweets, posts, feeds and news etc. about scouting locally and further afield. You can view the paper at this website, or by clicking the logo to the left. You can subscribe to the paper and get an email reminder when the latest edition is out.

5. RSS feed updates

For the more technically minded, you can subscribe to the RSS feed (find out more about RSS here). There are a variety of RSS readers that will allow you to receive the latest news posts without having to visit the site each time. RSS posts can be sometimes be received in your browser window, your email client or with an RSS reader plug-in or download. Have a look at Google+ for example. The link to the Ballymoney Scout Group RSS news feed is at the bottom of the page. Alternatively, click on the logo to the right.

Beavers Meet Santa

On Saturday 10th December, Ballymoney Beavers travelled to Castlerock for a Christmas fun day, meeting up with over 80 Beavers from all over the Coleraine District including Coleraine, Portstewart, Scouting Ireland from Coleraine, and Castlerock.

The day started with drawing a picture for Santa, with Jonathan’s picture being judged the best for Ballymoney.
Fun and games, making a lot of noise!

 
The Beavers then went on to spend some time singing and dancing to Christmas songs, making as much noise as they could with their tambourines and maracas.
 
 
 
 
Meeting Santa

 
After a refreshment break the Beavers listened to traditional Christmas stories, bringing the afternoon to a close was a visit to Santa to receive a Christmas stocking.
 
 
 
 
All the Beavers had a great afternoon and thanks go to Jean the ADC Beavers & the Castlerock team for organising a great event for everyone.

Scouts Christmas Trip

The Scouts will have their Christmas trip on Friday 16th December – they plan to go to the swimming pool at Ballymena.
Meet at the Scout Hall at 6:30 pm , in full uniform. We plan to be back at the hall by about 10 pm. Cost will be £10 (including supper!).
Please confirm with Kevin by 6pm on Wednesday 14th December if you plan to attend so that arrangements can be made.

Winter Camp Report

On the hike...

On Friday 25th November the Scouts and Explorers packed up and headed off in the minibus for their winter weekend away at Dunluce Guide House. Once there, after setting up the hostel and unloading all the goodies brought by the Tesco delivery van, everything was set for a great weekend ahead.
On the hike...

On Saturday many of the Scouts and Explorers hiked around a portion of the North Coast. This allowed all participants to use and improve their map reading skills, as they each took turns to lead the group on the hike. Some of the Explorers took the opportunity to do some challenging biking, led by Robin Taggart.
On Saturday evening everyone enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner cooked by the patrol leaders and assistant patrol leaders. This was followed by party games, including the

After Eight Challenge, and ‘IbbleDibble’
After a leisurely breakfast on Sunday morning the Scouts headed out to complete a number of different challenges, including first aid, building a fire off the ground and tower building out of newspaper.
Christmas Meal

The weekend came to a close on Sunday afternoon when it was time to pack up and return to the scout hall. Looking forward to our next adventure!.

Explorer Christmas Trip

The Explorers will have their own Christmas trip on Friday 9th December – they plan to go karting at Race4Real on Ballybrakes Road, Ballymoney.
Meet at the Scout Hall at 7pm , no uniform required. We plan to be back at the hall by about 9:30pm Cost will be £20 (including chips!).
Please confirm with Helen by 6pm on Wednesday 7th December if you plan to attend so that the booking can be made.
